Running a farm is an expensive endeavour and it is always a lot of work. However, if you find that you are spending more than you want to on fuel, there are some ways to reduce this. You can take steps to ensure you use less fuel now that the prices have gone up once more. These include:

Maintain Your Equipment

Equipment that is no longer functioning correctly will burn through more fuel than machinery that is properly maintained. It’s a good idea to regularly check your equipment and take care of any potential issues. You should ensure tyres are filled, fuel filters and air filters are changed, and the machinery is all properly lubricated. When your equipment functions smoothly, you will notice that your fuel efficiency increases, as well.

Use the Right Machine for the Job

When selecting a tractor or other type of machinery for a task, it’s vital that you use the correct piece of machinery. If you use a heavy tractor for a light job, for example, you’ll burn through fuel that simply wasn’t necessary. However, if you use a light tractor for a heavy job, it can actually end up using more fuel due to the overexertion of the motor.

Correctly Store Your Fuel

Be sure your fuel is stored in a cool place and in white tanks or containers. This will help prevent any type of evaporation, which can result in significant fuel loss. By properly caring for and storing your fuel, you’ll find that you can make it last longer. It’s also a good idea to use the fuel regularly and replace it. Over time it can become stale and useless, so you may end up throwing old fuel away.

Use Clean Products

Everything you use in your vehicles or machines needs to be high quality. Ideally, you’ll have clean engine oil, gear lubricants and fuel. These should be free of contaminants to ensure your engine works at maximum efficiency and provides you with the power you need. When everything is properly lubricated and set up, the entire machine is much more efficient.

Find a Quality Supplier

You should also check with several suppliers to find one that combines good prices with high-quality fuel. High-quality agricultural fuel can dramatically improve your fuel economy, occasionally even by up to 5%, when used in place of poor quality or contaminated fuel.
